joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

Despite the bloodiest battle taking place here centuries ago, Otenshire wasn't exactly exciting, at least not to Emi. Still, it was the midway city between Engloria and Lyndon port, where she hoped she could smuggle this magical Gaiyan treasure she carried in her pocket dimension on board her ship after meeting up at the secret rendezvous point with her shipmate. As to her sentiments on stealing this particular treasure, Emi cared not for the true value of the Gaiyan treasure. It was Gaiyan, after all. Besides, those otherworlders in Rivengate would pay anything for researching magical items, and that was good enough for Emi.

Even if Emi didn't think Otenshire was particularly interesting, she would agree that it was known for its exceptional food. Practically everything was grown or raised right there in Otenshire. The food markets were practically a steal, and the food at the Root Tavern had to be one of Emi's favorite eating establishments out of all the taverns she had visited.

After surreptitiously adjusting her low-cut smock blouse a little higher so that it covered her chest enough to keep it from being obvious that it was bulging out, Emi nodded down at the person sitting at the table.  "Gotcha..mhmm.." She mused with a smile as she jotted down the person's order on paper.  For some reason, it felt as though this particular shirt felt smaller, and it was forcing Emi to find the need to constantly adjust in to refrain from her breasts spilling out. Emi couldn't complain about the corset, she was used to wearing corsets; the thief's outfit of green and orange that she wore frequently also had a corset, after all.  Yet this corset wasn't helping, pushing the fat around her edges below the corset so that it packed onto her hips, causing her red skirt to puff out a little more than perhaps was intended. This entire waitress disguise in general left Emi mildly wondering why it felt tighter than she remembered. It was possible that she gained weight since the last time she wore this. The greenette had healthy self-esteem though, she just hoped no one would notice that the disguise wasn't quite fitting in order to carry on with her mission to steal food from here. At the very least, people would hopefully think she was a waitress that gained weight while on the job, which may ironically have been the case since working at the bakery.

"Anything ya want on the side? I recommend the potato mash," There was a tiny insecure curl at the end of Emi's bright smile, wondering if she said that right, given that the different regions of Vyldermire tended to have different words for the same things.  "But all the side dishes are great here!" The voluptuous waitress of seafoam green hair said quickly and winked at the man playfully, although it was more of an inside joke to herself given the number of times she'd stolen food from here.

As soon as she received the order, the curvy disguised waitress turned on her heel to leave the table. It was important to keep the act for only a little while, serve a table or two, just before she'd steal the food and escape. She next ambled over to give the kitchen staff the order so that she could attend the next table, attempting to walk slowly given her lack of coverage of her white blouse to cause far more apparent vibration than she would like. Upon hearing a passing comment, Emi mildly glanced over at the tables and would have returned her attention back to the front when she blinked upon recognizing the familiarity of a particular man also seated at the tables. The stunned Emi slowed to a stop and took a double-take at the person at the table, identifying that it truly was someone she actually knew and never realizing he was seated there nor even for how long. Oh, fuck.

“If i knew the service came with a view i would have paid for the seat alone.” He called out with shameless confidence, a comment drawing some to smirk and some to shake in disgust at the inappropriate treatment of the working girl. Walking past in a simple shirt, corset, white blouse, it was all rather typical for a waitress in those parts but what wasn’t was the beauty who wore them. Hips irresistible to hold, a chest none with sight could ignore and a voice playful in a way which inspired innocence and blind just as often as it could inspire one’s far less publicly appreciated urges and imagination. But it was all of these qualities and more, such as the recognisable green hair and her unforgettable smile which made Zathius well aware of who he was taunting, and why she looked at him with eyes both shocked and likely hinted with dread.

To say that the angel’s past with Emi Kazama was complicated was well… simplifying matters. Of course when he spoke of her to others, which he did more regularly than he would have ever admitted, he spoke of a whirlwind romance and a pair of souls destined to drive each other wild. The reality? A series of unfortunate events which led them from passionate appreciation, to true care, to worst enemies and finally to… well the last time he had seen her they were likely in the worst enemies category though he hoped he was wrong and it was one of the first two options. All of this was a roundabout way of portraying the eternal dance of two free spirits, one in which they could not get enough of each other as much as they liked to pretend they could.

But though it was yet to be said, and he knew her mind was likely already trying to figure out how she was so lucky or unlucky, he was not there just to enjoy the spectacle of his ever exciting ex girlfriend in clothing she no longer fitted appropriately. No, like always she had something he wanted, but this time it wasn’t as petty or as base as a stolen kiss from the woman who hated his guts, or an adventure alongside the thief who loved him, but something very specific. Something she had stolen, or well, retrieved was perhaps a better description. Whatever the case she had something he wanted, and Zathius was confident enough in his experience of Emi he had a list of potential avenues on how he could get it.

“You going to keep staring at me or you gonna talk to Ems? Either way i’ll just return the favour.” He teased with a playful smirk which was barely effective at holding back his brighter grin. Zathius was seated alone at one of the tables, no drink at his side as it became obvious he had been waiting for the girl he spotted from across the tavern. Leaning back into his chair with one leg crossed over the other, the traveller’s vibrant green eyes traced lines down her hair and face as his hand ran it’s thumb slowly along his jawline. Elbow on the desk his hand rested against his face while the other rested atop his thigh. His legs were covered in smart, almost formal looking trousers, while his upper body was covered simply in a white button up shirt. Clean, crisp, though with sleeves rolled up to just below the elbow and buttons undone to just halfway down his body, the tanned skin of her heckler was very much on show as his collarbones and firm chest seemed to grow from the light around the tavern though not in the literal sense which he was very capable of. All that was left was to wait and see how badly she wanted to punch him.

Although the fake waitress with jade green hair plastered a grin across her countenance, dread was the only word that could describe how she truly felt. One person that knew her true identity as a thief was in the very tavern she planned to steal food from, and it happened to be her ex-boyfriend. Was Zathius here for payback for stealing his ship, or was he here for something else? Emi knew this game and she was far from naive; it was always something he was after and it was unnerving that she couldn't guess what it was given the amount of time it had been since she had last seen him. The worst part of it all was, for as much as she wanted to curse him out fearlessly like she would in any other occasion, she happened to be covertly in disguise; it was the only reason why she decided against it. Hmph. Food was way more important than her ex-boyfriend, so she can bite her tongue and play nice. For now.  She figured that he knew she would play along, too, based on that stupid smug smirk he wore on that obnoxiously handsome rogueish face that she just wanted to punch. If only she could. Zathius probably knew that too, which made her blood boil; one of the few people that could manage to do that to the comedic mage.

“You going to keep staring at me or you gonna talk to me Ems? Either way I’ll just return the favour.”

Emi narrowed her eyebrows over her dark green orbs as she gazed at the emerald eyes of her ex teasing her while he leaned back in his chair in his vexatious half-buttoned down shirt to expose the attractively tanned skin of his muscular frame. This asshole was doing this on purpose! Nevermind that the thief did the same thing to other people when it came to getting what she wanted; she didn't like the taste of her own medicine, especially not by the man she used to love - then again, this was how the game was always played, wasn't it? Fine. Two could play at that game. "Oh! Heeheehee! Captain Goldstag..what a surprise!" Emi chirped in her playfully high-pitched tone of voice as her eyebrows rose in delight as she giggled, acting in surprise as if she finally took a moment to recognize who he was. Faking a moment of not recognizing him should knock that stupid ego of his down a few notches. "Speaking of surprises.. Last I heard, you lost your ship in... Rivengate, wasn't it?" A finger pressed onto her bottom lip as her green eyes glimpsed off to the side, trying to make sure she recalled what she 'heard' correctly, although the smirk that curved one side of her lips indicated that she knew only too well what happened to his ship; after all, she was the one that stole it herself and abandoned him at the island without a care as to how he'd get home. It was always fun to toss that reminder since she couldn't punch him at the moment. She hoped that hurt.

"Ya know.." While the clown criminal in disguise sashayed around Zathius' seat until she stood next to him, her voice dropped down a few octaves to reveal her true, low voice she tended to use when she was serious or up to no good - she'd never reveal which one she was feeling either. "I'll bet you even have an interesting story of how you managed to escape the magic-less island and crossed that dangerous sea full of monsters.." Emi poked his nose playfully but with a low, sultry voice that dripped with sarcasm, never bothering to ask just how he managed to escape. She didn't want to show that she cared enough to ask, although she hated that a small part of her was truly curious as to how he managed to leave the non-magical island without being able to fly very far. Fucking angel.

"Well..What do you want?" The voluptuous waitress cocked her hip to one side to lightly bump against him teasingly while remarking with a clench of her teeth as a smile spread across her lips. She eyed the notepad she whipped out as if the blank paper was far more fascinating than him while acting as if she was merely asking what he wanted to order. In reality, she hoped to indicate that she wanted to know what he wanted from her. It was no coincidence that he knew exactly where she'd be, and the sooner he'd leave, the better.
