At the edge of the hellfire, It's the end of an empire,  In the line of the
gunfire. It's the end of an empire, again, again. It's the end of an empire
Artemis Dagger

It was all gone.

Everything. His empire. Sure, it hadn't always been his, and egregiously tasking role thrust into his palms as a result of his birthright. A task he had abhorred at the time. The role of the Chairman of Hidden Blades, a position he was forced into by his father, Lucarius. The next step on his road up the ladder to the role he was born to play, the heir to the Dagger fortune, eventual CEO of Dagger Corp, and leader of his families estate. There had never been an out, escape wasn't an option, not even death for the eldest male of the first family's line. There simply wasn't any other choice, at least not that he'd been aware of.

And whilst for the longest time, he had been resistant to the path. Eventually, he had succumbed to it, and much to his frustration, he had grown to love it. Running the shadow society, overseeing its success and developing the business. It had been exhilarating, finally in so many years, he had found himself given the respect he so yearned for. Respect from his agents; Esper, Mietitrice, Revenant, Bastet, Stilletto, Music Man, and so many others. They treated him like a leader, actually coming to him for support and showing him genuine appreciation. And weirdly enough, being a leader well, he was actually good at it. He had grown to love his work, and all he had wanted was to make it his own. The production and introduction of Desire, a magically stimulating edible should have been wondrous, it would have taken them to the next level. They would have grown, if possible, even more formidable.

But alas, the older members, his father's men. They just couldn't deal with change. Their backwards ideologies had brought his plan to ruins, unable to let go of ancient schemas regarding race and sexuality. The fight that had broken out at the casino event wasn't his doing, he knew it, his agents knew it. Heck, even Blanche vouched for him. But his father cared not for excuses, because he and his hires had killed off nearly all of the old guard. Which was apparently a foul too great to forgive and so everything he worked for, his business, his faction, it was gone. Torn out from under him, dismembered and burned to ash. No trace that it ever existed, his agents paid off and scattered, and Artemis left in the dark. What was to come next, who knew. It was likely that his father was rebuilding a faction without him, but how would that work out he didn't know. If he was to take over the family business, unless that was off the cards too. But who knew? No one told him anything. Fuck all.

Regardless, everything felt like it was falling apart. And something was up with Percy, no one would tell him why, but Dad was pissed not just with him, but with both of his sons apparently. There wasn't really much he could do in terms of his guild, or his family, but the one thing he still had some semblance of control over, at the very least was his relationship with Perce. And like hell was he going to abandon his younger sibling during this time, he needed to know what was going down, and there was only one way he was going to find out what the fuck was going on.

Artemis dragged his bike out into the drive, climbing on the back and turning the ignition. He would raise his iLac to his ear, dialling the number for his younger sibling. He would let it ring, and regardless of whether he answered or not, he would make one quiet demand. "Pizza's on me." Following which he would hang up, kicking the bike into gear and driving into the night. Making way to Maroni's, where hopefully Percy would finally be able to fill him in.

Now wasn't the time for pizza. It wasn't time for anything but doomed running, and yet Percy found himself zooming the work van packed with his most essential items and escape documents to Maroni's in a desperate last-ditch effort to thwart the oncoming storm. It sounded selfish, but the youngest Dagger had no idea what had been going on with his brother. Had he wanted to introduce him to Leon? Absolutely, though even that hadn't felt safe. Contact with his family wasn't safe. Not on account of Arty himself, but rather...the eyes on him. The pressure of an heir. Not that it mattered now. Keeping the secret was pointless once the truth came to light as it just had no more than an hour ago.

With all Percy and Leon had been struggling through, he had no idea that Hidden Blades was even gone, nor that Artemis was also on Lucarius's bad side. Recovering from the war had taken over his life, and just as they were coming out of it, something worse loomed on the horizon. It was so so selfish, like a lot of his other life decisions, but he had a small shred of hope that Artemis could help him keep Leon alive. He had to try all avenues. He owed Leon that much and so much more. The man literally hadn't asked for this. Leon had no idea what was about to befall them.

Screeching the tires as he slammed the breaks and jammed it into park, he jogged into their special spot knowing he shouldn't risk it but doing it anyway. They had a special table, and though not always reserved for them, it was thankfully unused and currently where his brother sat. Percy wished he could have a lighter expression to greet Arty, especially since he hadn't seen him in ages, but his emotions were still overwhelming him. His right eye, the good one, was darkening and all but swollen shut from Lucarius's fist, and though he didn't otherwise look upset, someone as close to him as Artemis would know that this was how he looked when he was so upset he could barely process and had shut down. That brilliant mind of his was going 10 miles a minute, trying to figure a way out of an impossible situation that would cost him everything.

There was a lot to say. A lot to unpack. A lot to ask for. Yet his impassive voice only said one thing. "Hey, might have to make this quick," he spoke, quiet and flat as he sat down. So lowkey, as if his entire world hadn't just exploded.

The drive to Maroni's was swift, the streets of Crocus weren't especially busy at this time, the post-work rush hour was significantly eased by this point. He drove fast, knowing what shortcuts to take, mindful not to draw any unwanted attention to himself. It wasn't long before he was pulling into the car park of their designated rendevous spot. Parking up, he would switch the engine off, using a button on his keys to activate his anti-theft lock. A Dagger Corp. invention, making it virtually impossible to steal the bike. It would only work if its assigned registrant operated it, impossible to hack. The only way anything could steal it was if they carried it into a van, but the bike was two-hundred and twenty kg of thick metal. And if anyone touched the bike that wasn't him, the fob on his keys would emit an alarm, letting him know instantly. He loved his bike, Bettie, it was something he'd purchased with his own money. Something that at the very least, his family hadn't been able to take away from him.

The red-headed male would make his way into the restaurant, manoeuvring over to their favourite booth. Sliding into the familiar maroon cushion, he would go ahead and order their usuals. Not bothering to wait for Percy to arrive, he figured that once he got there, they would need to focus on filling each other in. And sure enough, soon the two-toned sibling of his would wander in. Artemis exhaled at the sight of him, it was strange really. He already knew that he was okay, but somehow, seeing Perseus in the flesh, validating that he was still there. It lifted one of the many weights crushing the shoulders of the Dagger heir. The relief however was short-lived, as Artemis took in the state of him, gaze falling upon the black eye his baby sibling was now sporting. Relief morphed rapidly into an instantaneous rage.

Who. Fucking. Dare.

With gritted teeth, he stared his brother down as he sat across from him, hearing his throwaway remark about being quick. A scowl falling across his features, "What the fuck Perce." He began, leaning forward in his seat, he would grab his sibling by the chin. Pulling his face so he could get a better look at the shiner, "Whose ass do I need to beat?"

"Lucarius," Percy pointedly revealed, his face still blank but his eyes flashing with rage and panic. It was more of an answer to who had done it since neither of them had a chance at beating the Dagger patriarch, whom he now refused to acknowledge as his father.

Everything was so very fresh that it was probably a bad idea to meet with his brother in this state, but this could very well be the last time he saw the only person he still considered family until his parents were dead and gone... if he was still alive himself.

His chin lingered and betrayed his body's trembling for only a moment longer before he pulled it away with cracks starting to show in his calm facade. The safety and familiarity of his brother's company pulled at his seams and they rapidly unraveled. "He just p-put a hit out on my b-boyfriend," Percy sputtered after a moment, becoming more obviously upset. Of course, there was a ton to unpack from that one statement, which he'd thrown out as if his brother was even the slightest bit aware of anything that had happened to him since Fairy Tail's guildhall fell on him. There had been many developments, but it wasn't unusual for Percy to lose touch when he was busy... or in general. He wasn't really good at being social.

"Arty, I m-messed up. I have to take him and run, but I d-don't know if... ah, I... I don't know if I c-can save him... I sh-shouldn't have..." His words came rapidly and in incomplete thoughts. The more he tried to put it all in order, the more agitated he became that it was taking too long to explain, and he simply didn't have the time to fight with his own mouth. The assassin was mobilizing. He had the tiniest of windows to work with. "I t-told Lucarius off and s-stood up for myself, but... Is there anything you can do with Hidden B-Blades? I know it's a b-big ask but..."

A cool chill washed over the older Dagger son, eyes narrowed, he lowered his hand from Percy's chin, closing his fingers into a fist. "Dad did this?" He would ask, his voice a hoarse whisper of shock. It wasn't that it was beyond his father to discipline them, but it had been years. Not to mention, he was always clever about maintaining appearance, never the face - not unless he was seriously pissed. Artemis's mind spun, baffled as to just what could have triggered his Dad to hurt Perce like this. He straightened slightly, waiting for his brother to explain. And then the ask came.

Boyfriend.

Art's mouth opened, emitting a soft 'ah' as realisation dawned. Brow still furrowed in thought as he took in this new segment of information. His brother's sexuality wasn't really that much of a surprise, Percy had never come out but Art had sussed that it might be possible. Mainly due to his abhorrent fear of Art's ex-girls, then again that might have just been Lilith. Still, the thought was there. So it seemed both his siblings had a fondness for both sexes, unlike the middle child who was hetero, yet unfazed by the orientation of his sibling's preferences. Amongst Daggers, however, Artemis's relaxed opinion on non-hetero relations was a rarity. There was a great deal of archaic ideologies when it came to that sexual relations, and this knowledge based on that single sentence, was enough to tell Artemis an entire story. Percy started dating a guy, Dad found out. The end. The fact that Lucarius had hit Percy in the face, was now no surprise. The fact he put a hit on his boyfriend, neither a surprise. That was just Lucarius Dagger. Asshole extraordinaire. But even so, just how had it gotten this bad? "Geez Perce, that's messed up."

As Percy went on to talk about taking his boyfriend and running, Artemis's face contorted, souring at the thought but saying nothing. This was much more serious than he realised it was, if Percy was talking about running away with this guy. But running from Dad, from the Dagger Family and all their contacts - it was a death wish. As Perce brought up Hidden Blades, Art would lean back in his seat. Jaw clenched tightly, fists opening and closing in front of him. He closed his eyes, taking a slow breath, exhaling softly before opening his eyes to meet his brother's desperate gaze.

"I can't. It's been disbanded."

And it all falls down; | PERCY Empty Re: And it all falls down; | PERCY

Post by Percy Mon Oct 18, 2021 12:06 am

Another low blow and the official death of his slim chance at getting out of this. Percy released a quivering sigh, slumping forward to rest his elbows on the table. His hands ran through his hair miserably. "I bet that was him, too?" he asked, though he was pretty sure he knew the answer. It did surprise him that he would do such a thing to his heir, but control was a hard thing to give up, especially when their views on many things differed so vastly.

"Well, I b-busted my chance at making this go away already by choosing now to get a backbone with him. L-Love is funny like that... I could've saved him by j-just breaking up but..." Percy closed his eyes, wondering why he couldn't have just taken the hit. It wasn't like he'd been happy before Leon, so going back to being unhappy but knowing Leon was safe would have been the best move at the time. Selfish. Selfishness was to blame. A life without Leon didn't seem worth living, so now he'd sacrificed the man he loved and probably himself. "I g-guess we're all m-messed up. Runs in the blood..."

Since this was likely the last time he'd see his brother, Percy lingered even though he knew he should be running out. There was so much he wanted to tell Arty, like about Leon and how they met. The war and the brief moment in his life where he'd had everything he ever wanted. Even the trauma that followed. A few more minutes wouldn't hurt or help his chances, but there wasn't enough time for all of that. "I fell in love with the wrong gender, what did you do?"

Artemis nodded at his brother's question, eyes drawn downward as a new emotion joined the potion of crap he was already feeling; frustration. Frustration that the one time he really needed the power that Hidden Blades could have given him, it had been taken from him by the person he needed to use it against. He could have helped Perce and Leon, but alas he no longer had the tools needed to do so. Like a game of chess, constantly outplayed. Although Artemis found it hard to believe their two issues correlated, it seemed more like a happy coincidence. His father was good, but he wasn't that good. Artemis's own apparent 'fuck up' was enough ammunition on its own to lose him control of the guild, regardless of Percy's circumstance. No, for Lucarius, this had just been an unexpected perk of doing so.

He shook his head as Percy blamed himself, "No Perce, They would have offed him anyway. Maybe not straight away, but soon enough so that the news of your relationship wouldn't get out and," He would raise his hands to do air quotes, "Besmirch the family name." He sighed, agreeing wholeheartedly however with his brother's following statement. The Daggers really were a cursed lot, in spite of their wealth, fame and power. The suffering they endured for it, almost made you wonder if Artemis hadn't been the first to make a deal with a demon in his family line. That would surely explain all the shitty circumstances. "You love him huh?" There was once a time when Artemis might have been hesitant to believe it, that Percy was too young and naive to be in love. But the image of a particular pinkette beamed in the forefront of his mind, and for once, he understood. "Listen to me Percy, regardless of how it may appear; you haven't done anything wrong. Loving someone isn't a crime, and that bunch of sad sacks we call family need to get their heads out of the asses and realise that. Don't you dare fucking internalise that this is your fault Perce, do that and they win. They don't need any more wins at our expence, they've taken enough from us as it is." He told him firmly, hoping that his words would somehow get through to him.

Artemis would pause as the waitress came over with their order, nodding thanks and declining her offer for condiments or anything else. As soon as she was out of earshot, he would lean forward in his seat to answer Perce's question, not bothering with the food just yet. "It's bull bro. I did what he wanted, did my duty, even got good at it. Really fucking good. But success in our family doesn't mean shit unless you stay in your lane apparently. I was trying to introduce some new line of work into the business, and Dad's gang of bigot fuckheads couldn't deal. There was... an incident." He lowered his voice, even more, glancing around before whispering the next part softly. "They tried to kill me and my agents. As you can see, it didn't work. We dealt with them because we had no choice. But apparently, it was my screw up, and proof that I wasn't fit to lead the establishment. So it's gone, all my hard work, down the drain."

And it all falls down; | PERCY Empty Re: And it all falls down; | PERCY

Post by Percy Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:50 am

Percy offered what was meant to be a smile as his brother tried to tell him it wasn't his fault and not to let the family win, but it was more of a crooked grimace followed by a stressed sigh. Artemis was a good brother. It sounded good. Part of him believed it. He'd even said as much at the time. "Yeah, that's what I actually told the old man... with a bit more angry flare, of course. I wish you could've heard it," he said wryly, still unable to believe he'd actually said what he had to Lucarius. Just thinking about it had him swelling with pride and terrified adrenaline, though he'd never enjoy the fruits of finally standing up for himself. Blaming everything on Lucarius and the ancient Dagger sensibilities wasn't wrong, since that's where all of this unhappiness spread from. Of course, even if he'd bent to Lucarius's demand, Leon was doomed. His lover was doomed from that first kiss he allowed to happen. That he couldn't help but internalize, even though he knew he should have never had to fight it from the start.

So messed up.

The waitress came and dropped off their usual order and their conversation paused. The normally perky waitress didn't stay to chat like usual, eyeing Percy's busted-up face and torn shirt. If that wasn't enough, she was able to read the mood for what it was. Tense. Upset. Percy would have loved to enjoy their special spot with their favorite meal, but his stomach was far too twisted to actually eat. Every time the intrusive thought popped up that he needed to leave, get Leon, and run for their lives, he thought he might hurl.

Percy listened quietly to Arty's hushed explanation of what happened with Hidden Blades, scowling as he imagined it. Though very different circumstances, it was eerie how similar the theme was. "So we basically both hit a sweet spot in life for once, only to lose it all because of him. That just... That sucks and I'm sorry it happened to you. You didn't deserve it. I'm so glad you're okay."

The peppermint head shook his head, angry that people had tried to kill his brother, happy that they'd failed, and frustrated that he wouldn't be able to see what happened for him next. He wouldn't be able to support him against their father on his newfound footing. In fact, he was abandoning the only family he had left. His face flushed a bit with suppressed rage. Oh, how he wanted to flip this table and yell, scream, and cry, but now wasn't the time. It would waste the precious few minutes he had left with his brother.

This was a final goodbye, and whether Artemis felt it or not, Percy was keenly aware. He stared at his brother's face as if memorizing it, his eye starting to water behind all the swelling. "So what are you going to do now, Arty?" he asked, trying to keep the tremble out of his voice. "I really hope you're gonna go find something that makes you happy. Let him have his cursed empire and get out if you can, okay? Can you promise me?" Percy asked quietly, his teeth gently tugging at the scab on his lip.

It should have helped, getting all of it off his chest, talking to someone who actually understood where he was coming from. But it was really hard to enjoy venting to his brother, when there was just too much crap in the way. All thanks to good ol' papa Dagger. Still, at the very least he was able to cock a half-smirk at Percy's admissions, "Yeah, me too. I can only imagine the look on his face, bet that vein on his head was near enough ready to pop." He emitted a soft snort, picturing how gobsmacked Lucarius would have been to be put in his place by his youngest. Percy didn't exactly have the ruthless Dagger reputation, not in their parent's eyes at least. It was why they pushed him around, why they pushed all their kids around, just because they could. Using parental privilege as an excuse for years and years of emotional abuse and manipulation.

Art shrugged as Percy's surmised his situation in a few words, "Yeah well, just the card I was dealt I guess." He replied, his tone defeatist. There was a genuine sense of loss in his mannerisms, like someone who had bet their life-savings on a horse only for it to die on the track. For once, he could see the path ahead, the direction he could take, to make something of himself. Something that he could be proud of. And now it was gone, and he didn't know what to do. At Percy's question he dragged his eyes downward, almost ashamed to meet his brother's gaze. Here Percy was, breaking free from the shackles of his name, and Art's limbs remained weak, unable to fight. Unwilling. "I don't know if I can. He sent me a message, told me to sit tight and wait for his call. I'm still a dog to them, Perce, I don't know if I'll ever be free."

And on top of this, he was losing one of the few people he actually cared about. Ruby orbs darting up to his brother, his tone solemn now, "So... are you really going to go? I don't... I-" His face was contorted into a tight scowl, fighting any signs of weakness that threatened to show on his face. "I won't stop you Perce. I just... fuck, why is this happening." His hold on his emotion would slip briefly, his arm jutting out and knocking his drink off the table. Its contents spraying all over the floor, meanwhile, Art leaned forward and buried his head in his hands. His hands trembled, fighting with all his might not to get upset, he didn't want to cry right now. Percy had seen enough of his older brother's weakness for one lifetime. He needed to be a man.

The waitress came over to clear up the mess, she looked almost as if she might say something, but seeing the tension between the duo that regularly frequented their establishment, she seemed to decide against it. Instead, placing a wet floor sign down and moving off to give them privacy once more. Art took several deep breaths before steadily calming down, lowering his hands. He needed to not be selfish right now, no matter how hard it was. No matter how much he wanted to beg Percy not to go. Even if he genuinely didn't know how he was going to cope without him. Regardless of his wants, he was and always would be Perseus's older brother, and that duty had to come first. That role at least, his father couldn't take from him. Percy needed to go, and Art just had to accept that.

"Don't worry about me Perce, just focus on getting yourself and your boyfriend a safe distance away. Maybe try another nation, we have reach but there are some places even the Dagger name holds no stock. Maybe you can find somewhere like that."

And it all falls down; | PERCY Empty Re: And it all falls down; | PERCY

Post by Percy Tue Oct 19, 2021 1:46 am

"I'm s-sorry," Percy said suddenly, his head angled down at the table. Tight fists balled against his thighs hard enough to cut bloody crescent moons as he tried not to cry but failed. "I.. I don't want to. I don't have a choice, Arty..." He had always had a hard time with his emotions and was prone to the weakness of crying easily. Tears began to squeeze from the darkened, swollen folds of his good eye. It was hard to see his brother upset. This really was the worst time. When Arty needed him most, he had to run. Percy felt like he was tearing in half. "I'll always w-worry. You may be my big brother, but you're the only family I have. You're the only family I've ever had. Please try. Don't just sit and wait. D-Don't give up," he insisted through sniffles, looking up at Artemis with a pleading expression. Percy wished he'd done it earlier like Pandora had, way before he'd met Leon. It wasn't fair for both siblings to leave while the one who deserved freedom the most was still trapped.

After a brief pause where he thought emotion might really get the best of him, he took a few deep breaths and nodded in agreement with his brother's advice. "Y-yeah, I was thinking Joya. I had some forged papers drawn up a little while ago just in case," he said quietly, but there was something in his tone. Percy had never been a good liar to anyone other than himself, and even he couldn't convince himself that he'd be alive a week from now. What was he supposed to do compared to an expertly trained, highly experienced assassin with magic? While Leon was the target, the killer would have to go through Percy to get to him.

"When I leave here I'll go get Leon and head for the Neutral Grounds... If we can just get there... so at least the assassin's magic will be out of the picture. From there we'll go underground and find a way out of Fiore," he detailed in a whisper. With the Daggers, you never knew when someone was listening. The plan sounded so easy, yet... he just had a feeling. His gut was telling him it wouldn't work, that there wasn't a plan that would. Percy had always been a bit of a pessimist, but this was something different. He hadn't even felt this level of doom when fighting an actual war surrounded by death. Then he'd been confident he could get himself and Leon out alive. This time, not so much. How bad does it have to be when one man with money and connections was more deadly than a whole nation full of soldiers?

If he did die, he hoped Artemis would never find out and just assume they got away and were living happily in Joya. It seemed cruel, but it was cruel mercy.

"Maybe you can use something you learned from the organization to disappear, too? Another country... start over?"

Artemis would look at his brother with a sad smile, taking a steadying breath. "I won't give up, I just need time." He told him, he couldn't promise Percy that he would follow in his footsteps. He just couldn't. There were so many variables, and with Pandora doing whatever the hell it was she was doing and Percy about to head on the run. Artemis would be the only one left, not only would they be on him like a hawk on prey, but there were no nothing he could do to help his brother if he did. At least if he stayed he could try and help derail the search, cover his tracks for him. If he got anything out of running Hidden Blades, it was learning how to cover tracks.

"I'll use what I know to erase any trail we find, plant some false leads. Dad might see through it but, it's worth a shot eh, to buy you guys some time." He told Perce, it wasn't going to be nearly as efficient as it could have been, but that didn't mean he couldn't at least try. "You've got this Perce, you're the smartest person I know, I have faith." He told his sibling reassuringly. He meant it too, as much as it pained him to admit. His brother was a baby anymore, he was grown, mature and intelligent. Smarter than any member of the Dagger family. With so much potential, but never allowed to blossom. Maybe now he would be able to do that, find his sunlight and succeed.

Art laughed softly at his words, shaking his head. "It's not that simple Percy, you have someone to leave for. And well, I have someone to stay for, it's a shame you didn't get to meet her. You would have gotten along." He explained, regardless of even if he wanted to get away from the life of a Dagger. He couldn't leave Sivvy behind, not after everything they'd been through. He had tried to force her out once, and if he left, she'd become a target. Not only that, he'd realised now that he couldn't exist without her, even if he wanted to. Looking at his younger sibling, he became all too aware that it was time. Time to say goodbye, a swell of emotion ran through the man as he attempted to piece together what he wanted to say. "Just... focus on yourself now okay bud? Be safe. Be smart. And make the fucking best of it okay bro." His voice cracked, reaching forward he would lean across the table, grabbing his brother by the back of the neck and pulling him into a rare hug. "I love you Perce."

And it all falls down; | PERCY Empty Re: And it all falls down; | PERCY

This was super hard. Saying goodbye to such a supportive brother and possibly meaning forever was a type of pain he'd never felt before. It should have been comforting to know that Arty had someone he loved here, though he also hated that it was keeping him from leaving. The sadness on Artemis's face twisted his gut with more and more guilt. She must be pretty special to tie him down after all this time, which was something he understood now. He wished he'd met her just as much as he wished his brother could've met Leon, but here they were making well wishes for a future they wouldn't be able to be a part of.

Percy had hated Lucarius the instant he called that assassin, but somehow he hated him even more in this moment. At least his words to his father about destroying his family had been right. Now they'd be splintered all over the place and he'd managed to sour his heir even more. Normally, this would bring hope of reformation in the face of consequences, but not for Lucarius Dagger. He knew better than to hope for that. It was always all business and there was always another route to take or a loophole to exploit.

The peppermint head had been doing good with not cracking until this point. "I'll try," he said with a frown, but as his brother reached over the table and drew him into a hug, the tears already squeezing from his right eye came faster. "I love you too, Arty-" His voice broke into a sob at the end, his bottom lip quivering as he pressed his head into his older brother's.

The mutual embrace only lasted a moment before he pulled away, hastily wiping at his eye and standing. He paused only a second longer to look at his sibling, the swell of emotions dying back to his overwhelmed blank expression. "Goodbye," he said softly, then turned and jogged out of the pizzeria and back to the van, which squealed its tires until it was well out of sight.

As Percy pulled out of the hug, he would nod at his goodbye, unable to speak. His voice is gone. A few short pats on the arm before letting him go, watching as he made his way out of the restaurant. The door ringing closed behind him, he would stare ahead, the sound of wheels in the distance. He collapsed back into his seat, sitting in silence as his emotions crashed over him.

And just like that, his brother was gone. And Art had no idea if, or when he would ever see him again, would it be like Pandora, maybe they would re-unite in a decades time. Or maybe, that was it, his baby bro, the little kid that had followed him around their manor. The one who sat up at night listening to all his crazy stories and wild antics, staring up at a younger Arty with bright, intrigued eyes. The only one who truly understood Art's suffering, suffering they had shared, bonded over. That sweet shy boy, his closest friend - gone, maybe forever.

Again his hands would find his scalp, clutching at red strands as sobs began to escape him. His shoulders shook fervently as he cried quietly to himself, tears falling with abandon, painting the table beneath him. He remained there for hours, broken and undone, contemplating the welfare of his younger sibling. Eventually, he would compose himself, the tears ran dry and he would straighten up. Cleaning himself up, he would look around, the pizzeria was empty now. It was late until the dining hours, the waitress had left him alone, deciding to respect the man's emotional breakdown and need for privacy. Sniffing deeply, he would reach into his pocket, grabbing for his cell, he would unlock it. Scrolling down for one of the few numbers he had managed to obtain for himself before losing his faction. He would dial it, letting it ring before hearing the click of an answer.

"Esper. It's Morte, I need your help."
