EDWIN "ASHEN" BRIAR
WitchGender / Sexuality:
Edwin is a interesting person. A man who refuses to follow by the guidelines of race and religion often acting upon his own set of rules. A scholar in pursuit of all knowing wisdom who was willing to cast away his humanity to further his understanding of the world. A quiet and reserved individual who despite his reservedness is an outgoing and cheery fellow. His words (when he does speak) hides his emotions behind a passionate and energetic voice.
He aims to make a great discovery or uncover some hidden truth about the world and the creatures inhabiting it as he wishes to find something that can push the races towards true peace and unity. But alas, this is all just a ruse that Edwin uses to push his own goals. He knows that while some are more accepting of other their will still be people looking and treating you differently.
His code of morals forge not by teachings of others but the understanding of them. A firm believer of an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, and claw for claw. Edwin is a made of patience despite of what his outer personality suggests. He is always plotting and is always keeping track of individuals transgressions towards him. He is secretly a very prideful and calculating person who primary motive is power through knowledge and knowledge through power.

Born in the wilderness, in a small burn down hut cradled by two scorched corpses'. The baby cried for hours till it was found by a benevolent spirit. The spirit cradled the crying baby and cared for it in his early infants years before being left in the care of a elven tribe in the woods. Here his foster parents would receive his name, Edwin for the words written on his burnt cradle, Ashen from being held by the ashes of others, and Briar for the reason why he was crying. While he was in the village, he called the son of the forest for the guardian of the forest who occasionally come and check on him as he grew and adjusted to the village.
Edwin was taught the Gaiyan way of living. Saying a prayer of thanks to the earth before harvest a plant or killing an animal. The patience before choosing violence as an solution to an issue regarding his fellow man or the earth itself. Taught to keep his emotions on a tight leash for he too can be turn into an eldritch. Under the elven care, Edwin had the chance to meet the other unique races of the Gaiyan, such as the dryads and the fae. Here he was taught a manner of history, from his forest father he was taught the origins of the world but he was only given the basic as he had much to learn. From the dryads, he learned about how humans came to the land and how the Gaiyans took them in their care showing them how to approach the world.
He was also taught the cruelty of humanity as the humans didn't care for the earth the same way the Gaiyans did. The Gaiyans that did agree with the humans later became the first eldritch causing the Gaiyans to leave the humans to their own devices secluding themselves. So that the human emotion could no longer taint him. The elves soon taught Edwin about the holy war and it was here that he first learn that their was a reason why they mask their emotions. Edwin was at the age of 18, hunting alone in the forest when he came upon an angel, perched on a tree looking over a lake. He had never seen an angel before as they are regarded as pure beings of truth and purity, but this one wings was grayed. Approaching the beautiful creature, Edwin ask what it was doing, catching the angel by surprise.
The angel didn't understand why Edwin approach and ignore it's question asking him why he was out here. The two soon began to converse as night fell Edwin had to return and ask the angel if it would come to village with him. The angel denied him and ask him to keep him secret from them which he gave a solemn promise. Everyday afterward, Edwin would sneak into the forest and find his angel friend and converse with him and after a year, the angel wings was all black. The angel explain to Edwin that this was their last meeting and decided to share a truth with the young man. That he wasn't the son of the forest but a victim of the forest. His parents was burned to death by the elves as an act of repentance they took you in by law of the guardian. The angel then spread his wings showing off the glossy black before explaining that he needs to come back here to tomorrow for he will leave him a gift.
Returning to the village with that shocking revelation, Edwin could barely hold back the feeling of mistrust he felt. He was now aware of the haunting stares of everything and everyone. The look of disdain and guilt barely readable under the surface of their calm expression. Overnight that feeling of mistrust turned to hate as he headed into the woods for what he now knew was a final time. Coming upon the hangout spot that he and his angel friend shared. He found the angel body peacefully resting against the tree overlooking the lake as a thick line of blood flow from his mouth to his chin as the body tightly held a book in his arms.
After several hours of getting the angel down from the tree, digging it's grave, and covering it. Edwin finally burst into tears, he couldn't handle the overwhelming emotion any more as he didn't know who or what to pray too anymore. An important life was lost and was their to show of it was a book. At the realization that he still had the book, Edwin quickly read through it learning of cities and places outside of the forest, rituals, and magic that he knew was forbidden but as he look deeper he found it comforting as he knew it was telling the truth that no others could tell him. Returning to the village book in hand, Edwin gather his things as he explain to the village he was going to learn more about the truth of the world. As he departed from the forest, Edwin saw the guardian one last time with eyes of knowing as Edwin turn away as the emotion started to take over him once more as he exited the forest. He discarded his humanity for power.
