Composed: Mathias has grown very composed over the years. It can’t be helped when one lives for so long. He does not like to rush into things and prefers to observe things from afar. He likes to study the world around him and has a curious mind that is constantly begging questions of him.
Tormented: The wizard is consumed by thoughts of magic and has been for most of his life. How magic is activated, how each person uses it, the vastly different forms it comes in. The only thing that can match its demand on his mind is food. Otherworlders always have the best recipes and he was known in a time to trade knowledge for one.
Stoic: Mathias will do everything he can to help a friend if he ever got one. He is kind hearted in nature and helps those that he can but, his past has made it difficult for him to trust anyone. No one would know the pain he carries nor oddly the hardship he will endure for others.
Lenient: Elves are blessed with having the luxury of watching the world pass by. While most things do not aggravate him or cause him to act that does not apply when it comes to the destruction of artisan works, books, and scrolls. History:
Mathias was born to Aden and Gweneth just before The Holy War. The family was no more prominent than any other Elven family. Nothing about them was special except for one thing, the Library. From an early age his father, Aden, was obsessed with cataloging everything he could get his hands on. His interests started with the basics of flora and fauna and quickly expanded to things like races, geography, and meteorology. Gweneth over time fell in love with his pursuit of knowledge and wanting to create a written history of all things for the Gaiyan. With lives that spend decades it gave them something to do and pass the time. They had three children, Alma, Elanor, and Mathias, the youngest and soul heir to the family.
It was beautiful to behold with each one of them adding to the shelves of scrolls, tablets, books, and any other medium they could find. The mother was a healer and researched not only the typical medical practices but even the occult. Alma, the eldest sister, was extremely passionate about food and farming, doing her best to learn about the world she lived in and the fantastic ingredients that could be discovered. Elanor, the middle sister, loved puzzles, mathematics, and astronomy. She would spend countless nights staying up staring at the stars trying to find the connection between everything. She always referred to a “Universal Law” that sounded interesting but was too much work for the youngest Mathias to be interested in.
Then there was the studious Mathias, a child born of intrigue with his head in every book about magic he could get his fingers across. Runic circles, magic of any type, fairy tales turned reality. These fantasies and thoughts consumed him. He loved spending time with his sisters as they shared their passions with him, the love of aiperism and vegetable growing rubbed off on him from his eldest sister and a love of astronomy and formula from the other.
During this time the family shared what knowledge they gathered with everyone, always accepting new knowledge with permission to access the cornucopia of information they had collected over decades. Word spread of a library that could rival the Gaiyans, nestled in Newdale, amongst the elves and even humans; who later tainted it with their deceit. Aden learned that the very words he wrote in the scrolls were used as weapons of war by other races. The family could not know how much influence their work had or how many deaths they were directly responsible. The close knit family agreed to seal their doors to anyone that was not Gaiyan. This did not go over well with many of the patrons.
Smoke filled the hallways of the once great library, looters and pillagers alike ransacked everything. The family barricaded themselves in a room as Eldritch pummeled its heavy oak. His mother in haste shoved him under the bed frantically placing her hand over his mouth to be quiet as he watched the door fling open and blood spill onto the floor. Screams echoed through the home. He stayed hidden for three days until Gaiyan’s responded to the distress beacon illuminated at the apex of the building. A boy covered in suet, dried blood, and the weight of watching his family die.
He wandered the free lands for years after the incident searching for some reason as to why his mother chose to save him that night. Traveling the land his curiosity for magic and its infitness slowly returned year by year. The Elf made his way back to Gaiyan territory after the great war wanting to reunite with his people. Every day was the same to him though, drifting with no purpose until his family called to him in a dream.
With the world in a state of “peace” he knew it would be his family’s wish that he continue their legacy and build The Library of Vyldermire. He did not know where he would start this opis but, it could not be in the isolation of Ilyanor. No, he would explore the Dionalor Planes, Viridia Overlook and revisit his old friend the Hoptus Forest.Likes:
Orderliness: Everything has a place and with everything in its place all things can be at peace. Cleanliness lends itself to focus and balance. Good hygiene, lends itself to a clean mind. Since a young age Mathias was always particular about the way things were placed in his spaces. One would even call him a bit neurotic about everything being in the right spot.
Magic: The Elf is fascinated with the many different ways that magic manifests itself in nature, people, creatures, and the universe. He is always excited to study and learn a new set of magic and how it works on the fundamental level.
Agriculture: Being born of the energies of nature Mathais has grown a large connection to raising and growing his own food. Starting it from seed and embryo to plate and honoring the entire life cycle of whatever he is consuming. As such, he will only consume things that he has personally raised. Dislikes:
Ignorance: There is no excuse for one not to learn things in this world. While naivety and innocence often precursor ignorance the scholar simply will not and cannot those who refuse to learn. Often educating them himself.
Deceit: Mathias cannot stand a lie. Hes lived long enough to sniff out most of them by listening to his intuition most often than not and repaying the disrespect with wrath.
Wastefulness: Vyldermire is a world that is alive and works on a cycle. Non-renewable forms of energy and lifestyles that do not respect the cycle or the very forces that created them. Goal/Aspiration:
To Establish Vyldermire’s first Universal library where those who are worthy may learn about the world and how to make it a better place. Key Fear/Adversary:
That he will not finish his family's dream and he will be a failure to their memory.
