Not quite a Reunion. [William]
Vyldermire :: The Outer Realm :: Newdale :: The Mixer Club
Not quite a Reunion. [William]

I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more
Nessa Cordelia Lux
This wasn't too far into the Outer Realms, right? Sure Cassian had warned her about it. But this was only Newdale, and it was basically like, right outside of Engloria. Which was safe as far as she knew, plus for the job of just delivering a letter, the pay was surprisingly good. And considering how difficult the past week had been, the girl couldn't really afford to turn down a job at this point.
Since parting with Cassian, Nessa had set out and signed up for the Adventurer's Guild. Rushing out to do as many jobs as she could, she barely scrapped up enough to pay for a room in an tavern in West Engloria. She had then worked for three days straight before heading down to Otenshire, which thankfully was a lot cheaper than Engloria. And it was close enough to the Dionalor Plains that she was still about to do some monster hunting and make some cash, it wasn't enough though. She was fairly certain she was going to have to take up the mans offer and join Velvet Reign. She had tried talking to some locals about 'Otherworlders' as he called her, but much to her dismay few had been willing to chat. Apparently there was a inherit suspicion about people not from this world which meant getting information on how to get home was going to be tough. One had offered her a small bit of knowledge for a price, which she had paid, only to learn that he didn't know anything more than what Cassian had already told her.
That they arrive in Hoptus Forest.
She wanted to head back there and investigate but the journey there meant supplies and supplies meant Vyldergold. Which she frankly didn't have enough of, so she had requested a job that paid well and trekked up through Engloria and into Newdale where the recipient would be. Newdale seemed like a relatively normal place, except for the fact that it made the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. She couldn't explain why though, it didn't look much different from Engloria, except less wealthy.
Nessa stepped into The Mixer Club, where apparently Varsa Konhein would be working tonight. It seemed more relaxed in here, with chattering and laughter filling the room, the sounds of a live band playing in the background. Nessa's nose twitched as the scents of fruity beverages hit her nose, Ugh, I would die for a cocktail right now. She thought to herself, alas, treating oneself to fancy alcoholic drinks was not something someone struggling not to sleep on the streets could afford. Nessa approached one of the waiters, interrupting him as he strode across the clubfloor.
"Um, sorry, is Varsa working tonight?" She asked, he eyed the girl in front of him, she had covered her usual clothes with a white cloak that she had picked up from a lost and found in the local Adventurers Guild office - an attempt to look less conspicuous. Still, some of them seemed to just pick up on her otherworldliness, it was like she was giving off a weird vibe. It certainly didn't help gathering information or getting jobs. At the very least, she could tell that she had acclimatised to this world a little, her magic had begun to creep back. She found that the more she fought monsters, the more it began to manifest. It was no where near as strong as it had been in Ishgar, but it was better than the feeble thumbnail sized orb she had created when she first got here.
The waiter turned and jutting his thumb across the room, indicating a beautiful black haired woman with red streaks in her hair. Her waitress uniform styled in an especially provocative manner, the skirt cut short to expose more thigh than usual, and the ends of her shirt tied into a box to expose her navel. She had bright red lips and an slit cut into both eyebrows, thick eyeliner coating her ruby eyes. Nessa thanked the man before approaching the waitress, "Hello Varsa. Hi, my name is Nessa and I'm from the Adventurer's guild, I have a letter that I've been commissioned to give to you. It's from Dimitri." Varsa had been ignoring Nessa until she mentioned the guys name, following which she quickly snatched the letter, faster than Nessa's eyes could follow, ripping it open the girl began to read.
Satisfied her job was done, Nessa turned away to leave the girl. Only to stop as she heard the furious shriek escape the girls lips, she looked back, recognising the pain and rage on the girls face. Heartbreak. Varsa would look up from the page, her eyes locking onto Nessa.
"It's you isn't it. The 'Someone else'. You bitch, I'll kill you!"
And before Nessa could defend herself, she was suddenly forced back with tremendous force. Within seconds she was forced onto the other side of the club, pinned against a wall and lifted off the ground by her throat. Varsa who was holding her with one hand, would snarl in fury, exposing a pair of very, very sharp fangs.
"N-no... Please..." Nessa could barely speak, the vampiress grip was quickly cutting off her oxygen and if she didn't get out of it, she would be dead in moments. "Someone... h-help..."

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

For yet another night the crimson headed youth would find himself looking up at what was supposed to be a relatively bright evening. Yet like every evening instead of the glow of a sunset he would see nothing but eternal twilight. The Shade enchantment working its magic. Not that he complained really, after all he was more suited for the darkness. Even if he did enjoy a bright sunrise, or a clear sunset. With a sign, he would throw on his cloak, and prepare himself for the day.
This would be his second week within the city of Newdale, and if he was being honest, he was starting to believe he had been here two weeks too long. He had come here expecting something different, something more akin to the life he hoped for and the unity he wished to see within the world. He had heard stories of course of the city where Humans and Eldritch could live together…
Sadly, he was quick to discover that he was not a fan of the way Newdale worked. They were… too peaceful. The longer he had been there, the more unsettling it had become. Humans seeming to coexist with Eldritch without apparent issue. Yet… Like most things, he had come to learn reality was far from the truth, and sadly this particular pig had been covered in a very bright shade of lipstick.
As soon as he started to look deeper, he started to uncover the truth, and more importantly get a rather stark… warning… People he saw one day would be gone the next, and no one would seem to notice. Even more strangely, one of the people he had come into contact with, had suddenly disappeared. The man, a human with a rather shaggy head of hair, had been quick to warn William that his question would get him in trouble. The man had been friendly enough, they had shared a few drinks and the local club, so once more William had hoped to see him when he entered the abode. Though a sense of foreboding told him such a thing was not possible.
As he entered the establishment he would reach back and let his cloak down. His long crimson hair would be tightened into a tight pony tail. To any who looked he would seem… different. Not entirely human, but not necessarily out of place either. Luckily for the man, he kept his wings hidden. He had learned quickly that they quickly lead to people making rash, and quite wrong, assumptions about him.
His eyes would quickly flick over the establishment, taking in anything of note, and more importantly noticing that once more the shaggy haired man was not present. With a sigh, he would grab a drink, delivered by the ever beautiful and more than a little provocative Varsa. The vampire had discovered quick by accident that William was Eldritch like her, and while she did everything in her power to ignore the human guest she more than made a comment or two to the raven haired man in passing. Once he grabbed the drink, he would move to find himself a nice corner to watch whatever was to happen through the evening.
Nothing truly of note had been going on, Varsa was making her rounds, and another waiter a male who would walk the club floor were working today, as well as various bartenders, and quite a few regulars. Unsurprisingly the club was filled with a pretty good mix of Humans and Eldritch, some in human form, others in a state of less. Yet, the air was tense, palpable even. The band was good at least, their music filling the club.
He had not been within the club but probably an hour when something caught his eyes. He had been talking to a human female who seemed to want him to by her a drink, and offer he accepted if only to be kind before turning away to watch the newest guest to the establishment. There were a couple of things that stood out almost immediately.
She was of course beautiful, though she was far from the only such beauty. No, what stood out to him was that she was wearing white, dressed in a cloak, but even more importantly she had a strange air to her. He could not place it, but he knew he was not the only one to notice. Making his decision he would move in closer, in order to hear whatever was to be said. He was surprised to see she would, after getting directions from the male waiter, make a beeline to Varsa.
This was bound to be trouble.
Although William did not hear everything, he did make out that she was part of the Adventures Guild, and it seems she had a message for the Vampiric female.
From his position he was able to see the entire scene play out Varsa would take the letter from the woman in white, quickly read it. As she did her face would change rather quickly from one of contempt to one of confusion, then sadness, then fury. Whatever the contents were, her cry of anguish, followed by her next words would seal his actions.
Suddenly, with the speed and strength known well to her race she would suddenly force the woman dressed in white back, they would cross the entire span of the club, and suddenly Varsa was holding the woman with one hand. Her fangs suddenly very much prominent. William could just make out the other woman’s request for help.
Unsurprisingly, no one in the club would turn towards the situation that had unfolded. In fact, William would notice that many of the patrons displaced by the movement would suddenly turn away, or walk off as if pushed by a wind. A few humans decided to take this as their chance to leave. The only person that seemed to care was a bouncer standing at the far end of the club. Though he made no move as of yet, and William knew he wouldn’t so long as blood was not to spill, it seems the man was hoping Varsa would take her prey elsewhere, and would only step in if needed.
Looking back at the girls, William would notice something that would prove what he had thought was true. The woman was in far more danger than even she knew. Peeking from her hair, with the displacement of her cloak, one would be able to make out her pointed ears.
With a burst of movement William would make his decision, and find himself next to the two woman. His hand shooting forward, and his eyes alighting with a purple demonic energy. He would grasp Varsa’s hand and rip it from the other woman’s throat. Though the Vampire was strong, William was glad to discover that he was at least a bit stronger, even if he had no doubt she had him beat in regards to speed.
“Tsk Tks Tsk…” The crimson haired man would say, his voice calm, resolute, and determined. Though he hated to fight, he knew his demonic blood, and magic put him at a higher standing than that of her. He hoped to use that to his advantage. “You know better. What do you think would happen, if you were to spill the blood of a one of her kind here?”
As he spoke, he would release a bit of his magic, feeling that she would try to resist him. At the moment however, his strength would hold her steady. “Take the rest of the day off, or go back to work, either works for me. But, we do not want this to get messy.” He would say, nodding to the bouncer, who had suddenly become very interested in the situations.
“But she..” The woman would try and say before William cut her off.
“She is but a messenger. Your anger should be directed at the one who wrote the message.” His voice would turn sour. “Now. Leave.” He would say with a final note, his eyes flashing with Demonic fury. As Varsa would turn to leave, William would notice that she would mumble something, though he did not care enough to catch what it was.
Cutting all flow of magic, and allowing his eyes to return to their normal grey the crimson haired youth would turn towards the woman dressed in white. He would give her a side smile, almost like a smirk, hoping to offput whatever tension she was feeling. “Are you okay?” He would ask simply.

Nessa Cordelia Lux
Nessa's face would quickly pinken as she struggled for air, the woman grip was so strong and relentless that it didn't matter how much she struggled, she couldn't get loose. She didn't want to try and fight, not with how weak she was at this point, she needed someone to intervene. But no one was, no one said anything, they just turned away. Helplessness washed over her as she dangled from the wall until suddenly she was relieved of the chokehold.
As the hand was yanked from her throat, Nessa slumped down the wall, knees buckling slightly as she bent over. Clutching her neck and gasping for breathe, hastily gulping down air with her eyes drawn to the floor. She would hear a man addressing the woman, it seemed that someone had decided to step in - thank goodness! It was so frustrating, however, back in Ishgar she could have beaten the vampire woman without any trouble at all. Back then, she would have been strong enough to incinerate the woman without even exerting any real effort. But now she could barely fight back, she was just so weak now and she hated it. It really was true that it wasn't until you lost something that you realised just how much you took it for granted. Having strength, both physical and magical opened up a lot of doorways for her in her world, so to be stripped of her power... reduced to such weakness.
The woman had left, having stormed off and the man would ask her if she was okay. She only just picked up on it, but his voice was strangely familiar. She brought her eyes up to him, "Yes, I am now thank yo-" Her words would cut short, focusing on his face, her eyes would widen and her expression would morph into one of complete shock. There he was, right before her, with his handsome features and long red hair. It was him, - her Markus.
She threw herself toward him, arms wrapping themselves around his neck as she embraced him. Tears falling from her eyes as she buried her face into his neck, "You're here, you're really here?!" She cried, the relief in her voice clear as day. So far she thought she was completely alone, trapped in this strange new world, and whilst only a week had passed, it felt like forever without the people she loved. "Oh, Markus, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you." She told him breathily, pulling herself closer against him. Wanting to feel him, to really know that he was real.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William would let out a slight sigh as he watched the vampiric female leave, he was almost certain this was not over, but for now his priority would be to get the woman in white to safety. He had no idea what an elf was doing here, it was not like it was against the law, but it was more than a little dangerous, even for one belonging to the Adventures Guild. He only hoped they would be able to get away without any combat.
As he looked towards the woman, the smirk still on his face, he would see a strange look appear on her face. First one of gratitude, then surprise, and finally one of joy. Though he was glad to see she was not hurt, the response surprised him, but not half as much as her suddenly leaping towards him, arms extended wrapping around his neck. He would take a half step back, instinctively on guard as he gave her a small hug in reply before letting go. He did not however push her away, in fact if anything he would feel her press tighter against him. As if he somehow had saved her from far more than what had just occurred. He could feel something wet against his neck as she spoke.
First, she responded as if she knew him, stating surprise to seeing him, though before he could respond and fix her mistake, she would suddenly utter his name. Not the name he goes by, the name he has shared with everyone in his life, but the name his mother gave him, the name he hadn’t used in years. The shock alone caused him to pause. Did this woman know him? Did she know his mother? Is that why a Gaiyan was here… had she truly come looking for him? Suddenly the crimson haired youth was filled with doubt, and worry.
William, still unsure what to do would extend the space between them, though if she clung to him, he would not be forceful. He would clear his throat before speaking, if she were to look at him, she would probably see a shade of pink upon his face at the closeness they shared, and a drop of confusion within his eyes that was quickly masked. He would then brush the bangs not held back by his ponytail away, slightly out of habit, but also in embracement. His thumb would accidentally brush against the patch on his right eye, but he would be careful not to displace it.
“How do you… never mind, we can talk about that later.” William would start, before suddenly feeling very much out in the open. His display mixed with her reaction suddenly did not bode well for either of them. Out of the corner of his eyes he could see the bouncer, still watching them, as if unsure how this situation should be handled.
“We have… a lot to talk about. How about we move to somewhere less… open?” William would ask hesitantly. “There is a diner nearby, we could get a booth. Or, if you prefer, I have a room at a nearby inn, we could talk in private there. If you were going to stay in Newdale, I am sure they have more space available.” William would say, not yet addressing, or even fully comprehending what had just happened. For now he would keep his distance from the girl in white, and as much as he wished to know who she was. Those sorts of questions could wait, until they were safe.
If she did not refuse his suggestion, he would then lead the two of them to whichever of the two places she preferred.

Happiness was not enough to describe the elation Nessa was feeling right now, even if she had almost just died at the hands of an angry vamp chick. She had found Markus, and that was enough for her. Of course, this didn't change the fact that she wanted to go home, but knowing that she would be undergoing this journey with Markus as well, just made it easier. It had only been a week, but a week in this crazy new world with no money and demons wandering around sipping smoothies whilst they chatted about the weather was just so utterly jarring.
She would relish his embrace, and look up at him as he pulled away from her. Admiring his handsome features with the relief and adoration. Her eyes would fall on the eyepatch, a concerned frown falling across her features. "Your eye... what happened? Did you get hurt?" She asked, reaching up and touching his cheek softly as she looked over it. As he suggested they talk later, she would look around and nod. They had drawn a lot of unwanted attention, she hoped that wouldn't affect her chances of getting hired. Then again maybe with two of them surviving would be a little easier now!
"You're right, let's go catch up privately. There's so much I want to tell you, and I also want to know just how is it that you got here?" Nessa cursed herself for not waiting nearer to the Hoptus forest, had she not wandered off with Cassian maybe she might have ran into Markus sooner. She frowned in slight confusion, what did he mean more space? She would wonder, only to conclude that it must be that his room was too small for the two of them. But then upgrading might be expensive, "Let's figure it out when we get there!" She told him, and sliding her hand into his, she smiled at him eagerly.
"Lead the way!"

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William would look at the woman as she touched him, spending more willpower than he would have imagined to not look away, or move back. This confirmed his suspicions above anything else. She thought she knew him, which meant she knew his face, perhaps one of his siblings? Though he doubted any of his father’s heirs would look enough like him to get them confused, after all he still had angel blood. As she touched him, asking about his eye, he would unconsciously take her hand into his and move it away. Letting his hair cover it slightly.
“Hurt?... no its just.” William would pause, before speaking once more normally. “It is nothing, I’m fine.” He would then step back as she spoke again, agreeing to go with him, and seemingly wanting to share some of whatever she had gone through, William decided to listen, at least for now. Precaps it will help him better understand how she knew, or thought she knew him.
“Well, I have had the room here for about two weeks, and this is my first time coming to the Outer Realms in a while. Though, I travel a lot and see many sights.” William would say, believing that was enough to answer her question.
Suddenly, she would grab his hand, causing him to involuntarily flinch. “That might not be the… smartest idea.” William would say looking back towards where the vampire had walked off, and the other waitresses. It was no doubt, whoever she thought he was and her had a connection, one he was unwilling to take advantage of. Even more importantly though, he could not risk people believing a Eldritch and a Gaiyan were a thing, not even in this town. “Newdale might be neutral, but… well you saw, its not what it looks like.” He would say before leading them. Though he would not refuse any further movements of affection, so long as it did not go beyond touching, he would also not replicate it. Despite the fact that she was beautiful, and if would probably make his lot easier if she trusted him, he could not use her in that way, and refused to use the relationship she thought they had.
“What about you? I am guessing this is your first night in the city. What brought you here? I am guessing you have been through a lot.” He would ask, hoping to have idle conversation while they walked, being careful not only what he asked, but what he said.
In the end he decided to lead them to his room at the inn, but before heading up he would stop at the front desk and order room service, asking it to be delivered to his door. He knew the food would not be great, but it would be warm, and that was enough for him. He would ask if the woman wanted anything, before paying a few coins and leading her up the stairs. He realized he would have to hunt again soon as he paid the woman. As a rogue agent he had certain connection, and could find work he knew, but that would have to wait. He had enough for now.
As they entered his room, one would see that it was quite small. In the corner was a single bed beside which stood a locked trunk which held his valuables. A wash basin was filled with cold water in the other corner. And a mirror stood nailed to the wall next to it. A single small window would show the twilight outside. William would decide to leave his cloak at the door on a small hanger, and offer to take the woman's. While he would normally keep it on in the presence of a stranger, he had already displayed his magic, and he had no doubt she had been able to pick up on the fact that he was... different.
Even so, he would keep his wings pressed firmly onto his back, feeling the cool air of the day touch their raven feathers. He was glad he was not like other eldritch though he could not completely hide his wings they, like some angels, could be folded such that they did not show under a cloak. Even so, it was stuffy and warm, so he preferred to be without a cloak in his own abodes. Then taking off his pack, William would walk to the basin, and rub his hands with the water before turning towards the woman.
“Alright. There is a lot we need to talk about. I will answer your questions, and am happy to help in any way I can.” He would say genuinely. “…but first… I think we need to clear the air. I do not know how you know my name, especially when I do not give it out. So, let’s start with that. Who are you? Why are you here?... and more importantly, what made you think it was a good idea for an elf, especially one who couldn’t defend themselves, to come onto eldritch land, even with the treaty?”

Nessa Cordelia Lux
Nessa would consider pressing the matter before deciding against it, Markus never had been one to appear vulnerable. She could only assume something had happened when he arrived through the portal, maybe one of those weird slime monsters had gotten to him. And if his magic had been drained from him in the same way that Nessa's had, healing wouldn't be an easy feat either. But he seemed to have got some of it back or at least established some means of scaring off a vampire. Even Nessa couldn't do that and she had been grinding since she got here.
She listened to him, so he must have been here for a while before her. She tried to rake her brain and recall the last time she had seen Markus back in Ishgar. But once again she was met with fogginess and clouded thoughts. She could see his face but she couldn't recall just when or where it was.
Nessa blinked in confusion as he seemed to reject her advance in holding his hand, was there something wrong with that? Were Otherworlders not allowed to express public displays of affection. She knew that they were discriminated against, but to that extent? The thought would cause Nessa's to pout, "That's so silly, this place and all its weird rules, I can't keep track!" She moaned irritably but didn't push the matter further.
She would follow him gladly, relieved that she wouldn't have to worry so much now. With the stressors that have been weighing down on her lifted off her shoulders, Nessa would stroll beside him merrily, feeling almost euphoric with glee. "Yeah, I've never been to Newdale before, someone told me to avoid the Outer Realm if I could, so I've been mainly in Lyndon Port, Otenshire and Engloria. I only came here because surviving without any Vyldergold here is rough. And because of what I am, no one will tell me anything about getting home without payment," She told him.
When they arrived at the Inn, Nessa would take the opportunity of Markus's order to ask for some food and water. It feel good to order something without guilt, it had only been lunch but the weight of oweing Cassian for that sandwich was still something that niggled at her constantly. As they stepped into the room, Nessa moved over to the bed, peeling off her coat to reveal the clothes she had worn the day she arrived in Vyldermire. Taking a seat, she would flop back onto the bed and like out an exasperated sigh, reaching up to touch her slightly tender throat. "Geez, I really thought I was a gonna there for a second. It sucks to be so weak you know, back home I totally would've whooped her fangy butt!" She told him, throwing a fist into the air above her as though faux punching the vampire girl in the face. following which she would sit up to look at him, a smile on her face as she eyed him. Her eyes widened in awe at the sight of his wings,
"Whoa, Markus... you can use your wings?! Lucky!!" She asked, she reached up, touching her own shoulder, trying to remember what it was like to have them. "God I miss being able to fly. Travelling in this place is so slow!"
As he turned to her, she would listen to him, figuring he was going to fill in the gaps between his arrival here and meeting her. What she did not expect was what he said, her face fell quickly and her mouth fell open in confusion. She stared at him for a moment, before she realised what this might be. Standing up, she would approach him, "Markus, it's me, Nessa. You know me... we're..." She would lean forward, "You know me, you're memories just a little foggy cause of the travel. Mine is too, but I can help you remember."
"ALSO, why does everyone think I'm an elf here, I'm human. H-u-m-a-n! My ears are just a little pointed, for goodness sake."" She barked irritably, she had already gotten more comments about the ears than she liked, this had never been an issue back home, so why was it such a big deal here? She took a breath, taking a moment to cool down, yelling at Markus would do no good. She wanted him to remember, and so she needed to explain things calmly.
"Come on just... look at me. You know me. You know me better than anyone else, and I you." She would take another step closing the space between them, bringing her face closer to his. "I'm yours Markus..." She would whispered softly, leaning in.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William couldn’t help but smile a little at her pout. There was no real rule against it, it just made him uncomfortable, though he decided it would be best to keep that little detail to himself. Instead he would listen as they walked. She seemed pretty happy, it made him feel a tinge of doubt about revealing the truth to her, but he knew to keep such a thing in would only harm her in the end.
He was not at all surprised she had never been to Newdale, though he still would have though her race, or family, or even the guild would have warned her It was not safe. Though, based on what he had seen of her so far he was not surprised she had ignored the warning. As she talked, a sinking realization would come over him. Though, he was not sure yet he would continue to listen.
“Yeah, travel could be pretty expensive, especially if you got to go by boat.” He would say. He assumed her home was in the Gaiyan lands, so he wondered why she was stuck here. Though kept the question to himself. Though, anyone should be able to tell her what she needed to do that, it was not like it was a big secret. “I am sure I can help, it sounds like they were just using you.” He would say, refraining from saying something that might get him in trouble. He was not surprised people had used her nature against her, she seemed pretty trusting, and the sin of this world caused people to do some pretty nasty things.
Once they were in his room William would enjoy the cooling sensation of the water, and shrug his shoulders a bit with the release of his cloak. It was uncomfortable wearing garments over his wings, and keeping them pulled tight. It was much better to allow them some air. He always thought holding in his wings was a lot like holding in your stomach, it took constant effort. He was surprised to see how at homes he made herself, suddenly flopping on his bed. Though, he guessed it was to be expected. After all, if he was who she thought he was, he assumed their relationship would be pretty intimate.
As she joked about her powers, and he would raise an eyebrow and give her a half hearted chuckle. “No doubt, just be sure to take it easy okay.” He would say light heartedly, what he didn’t say was that he worried wherever home was they sorely misunderstood their own power, if what he had seen was anything to gage it against. He was certain now, she was naïve, and a bit aloof, honestly he liked her, but still he could not help but think there was something he was missing.
At the sound of his first name he would look away then smile a bit as she talked about ‘his wings’ as if she had seen them before. Just how alike were him and the man she thought he was? Suddenly William found himself questioning his own sanity before clearing the thought. There was no way. She had to be confused. “Yeah, wings are nice but they draw… unwanted attention. Especially with the wrong crowd. Most people assume… well the worst.” He would cut himself off before saying more.
As he asked his questions he was not surfside to see her reaction. He was sure it would be a shock. However, as she stood up he would take a step back, finding himself rather close to the wall in such a small space. As she approached, he would not stop her, but he would watch her carefully. She tried to press onto him that it was his memories from travel that were messed up.
When she next spoke up about being human, he would made a sudden realization. "I... see.", he would say simply. She was not from here. Not just here as in the Outer Realms, or even here as in Mirinah… no… she was not from Vyldermire. She was an Otherworlder. Suddenly much of what she was saying made perfect sense. Though, the fact that there was someone with his name, who looked so much like him that she got them confused was worrying to say the least…
Before he could explain what he had come to realize he suddenly found himself face to face with the woman, Nessa she had called herself. He would find himself following her instructions, and looking deeply into her eyes. Really looking at her, honestly kind of hoping he would recognize her. But, it was to no avail. Whatever it was she wanted him to see was not there.
However he became very aware of how close they were. Just a hairs breath away. William would come to realize that she was hoping he would kiss her… and for a brief moment, he truly considered it.
“Nessa…” he would whisper, his hand inching towards her barely brushing against her… then he would turn slightly, angling away from her. “I.. I am not Markus… I mean… I am… it is my name… but it is not the one I go by… I go by William.” He would say in but a whisper, unable to get his thoughts together. Due to where he was he could not move away from her, until she parted them they would be but a hairsbreadth apart. Truth be told, if she was to push the kiss, he was not sure he could fight it, but he was determined to not use the feelings she thought she had. “I am… I am not who you want me to be.”

Nessa cocked her head as he mentioned that the wings drew attention, trying to figure out why. Seeing as she'd seen demons wandering around like nobodies business, she couldn't imagine why Markus would draw unwanted attention. Unless he meant people mistaken him for a Mirean, she guessed she understood that. Like how Cassian assumed she was a Gaiyan, depending on what you were people treated you differently. "Yeah the way this society function is so odd, different races wander around freely, but there's still this like air of judgement you know. I guess it's not too dissimilar to home," It really was a weird dynamic, and in the week they had been there she had certainly picked up on some strange energy. But it wasn't like it really mattered, she didn't exactly plan to stay in this place long term.
As the conversation moved onto him revealing that he didn't know who he was, following closing the gap between them. Nessa would stay there, her eyes examining his face as he insisted that he wasn't who she thought he was. Calling himself William, something that Nessa could only assume was probably caused by some of the confusion of coming through the portal. Maybe it had affected him differently to her, convincing him that he was a part of this world. Maybe he couldn't remember anything about Ishbar. But to her, it was Markus, it just had to be him. "No, no, see that's just this world. It's making you forget things. You're Markus Eldridge, you and I are from Ishgar. We met in the forest near Magnolia when you caught me crying cause it was the anniversary of my mothers passing. We splashed around in that pond and you took your shirt off, you showed me those scars on your back from your past. We've been through so much Markus, you just need to remember. Remember the time we saved those fairies from poachers and I nearly lost control because of the curse. Remember how we went back to that tavern and had too much to drink. Remember how I washed your wounds in the shower. Remember... how you kissed me that first time..."
She would allow her hands to snake upwards, wrapping themselves around his neck, "Remember all the kisses we've shared since..." And so she would lean in, closing the gap between them, eyes drawing shut as she pressed her lips against his - willing him to remember.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

Once more William was forced to question the woman’s understanding, or at least comprehension. The way she talked about the land, and their society. As if she was apart from it, made things even more confusing until he made his realization that she was an Otherworlder. At first, he had assumed she was from a distant land, but he doubted any land would be as different as she seemed to think, no. Her being from an otherworld was the only explanation. He just needed to get her to understand, while she was born somewhere else, he was born here, and had very real memories of his time.
Despite what he said, and the fact that he had turned away Nessa remained close to him, her eyes were pleading into his, trying to will him to understand something that was just not there. William quickly realized just how dangerous the situation he was in would be. The woman would be crushed when he finally proved his point, she needed him to be Markus… But, he could not force something, and he knew if he tried it would hurt her so much worse in the end.
As she talked about her past with the other man, William would listen intently, but know it was fruitless. She was so close, as she talked he could feel her breath hitting him. Their bodies were still touching. It was strange, William thought, to be so close to someone in such a way. “Nessa…” He would whisper, trying to get her to understand. “I am…” But before he could get the words out she pressed up to him again. Willing him to remember a memory that would never be his.
As her lips pressed to his, William felt a strange elation. She was beautiful, and the kiss was short of divine. Tender, and hopeful, without a hit of passion, but something else entirely. Still, not a moment after their lips touched would William push her away, dreading the fact that he could not take her up on her offer, as much as he truly, wished he could.
“Nessa.” This time he spoke with more conviction. This had gone to far. In his unease he had let her take a step he shouldn’t have, and for that he felt awful. An emotion that would be clearly written in his eyes. The regret for what he had done, and was about to do. “I. Am. Not. Markus.” He would say each word clearly. “I believe you know you are not from this world. But, I am. I was born here, I am a Demon, born as a hybrid to an Angel mother, and a Demon father.” Markus would hold her at arm’s length, gently as not to hurt her, and trying to be as comforting as possible.
“The Markus you know is from your world, not mine. I do not know how such a thing is possible, but no matter how much… no matter how much either of us wish for what you want to be true. It will not happen…” For a brief moment William would consider his options, before making his decision. “I have no scars on my back, at least nothing noticeable." Moving them to the center of the room, William would unfold his wings. Within the cramped space they would take up a large portion of the room, but he needed them out of the way. “Look.”
Leaning over William would pull up his shirt, which luckily was designed to accommodate his wings, and pull it up enough so the she could see his back, touch it if needed. Anyone who gave his back a close inspection would see that his raven black wings would flow smoothly into his shoulder blades, fully as another appendage, and his back would be unmarked excluding the occasional nick from an errant attack that might have come from a monster. Muscle would cord on his back, and tighten as his wings moved, his athletic form apparent. It was for that reason, William took good care of his body, not taking unnecessary risk, and usually paying for a healer to remove any unsightly scars before they got to bad.
When he could tell she was done with any sort of examination she might do on his back, he would stand, and readjust his shirt, hoping that he made his point, and now standing by to help her cope in any way he could. "I will help you get to him in any way I can, and I will help you here to the fullness of my ability... but, much to my dismay I assure you, I can not be more than what I am."

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling don't be afraid

Nessa Cordelia Lux
It didn't feel right...
It was Markus's lips. Markus's touch. Finally, she was sharing the sweetest of moments with the man who she loved more than anyone and anything in any world. And yet... something felt off. He would push her away, interrupted the tender moment recreating some distance between them before telling her the truth. Even now he refused to confirm that he was her Markus and with every word her confidence began to crack. From the moment they had kissed one another, and the honesty she couldn't feel behind his words would leak droplets of doubt into her mind.
"But... you have to be..." She uttered softly, but then again... what he was saying. It wasn't completely unlikely, this was another dimension after all. Was the possibility that in this world there was a Markus who was... not quite Markus. But even so, he HAD to be Markus because surely it was not possible that she had been thrown into this strange new world where she was helpless, weak and accepted by few. Leaving her completely broke and work endlessly just for a bed for the night and food in her belly. Forcing her to struggle this entire time, only to dangle hope in front of her, hope that she had found Markus and then tear that reality apart as quickly as she had found it.
Surely... fate was not that cruel.
And as he moved away, lifting his shirt to expose his back, her eyes would drift over to the smooth and mostly unmarked skin. Those deep scars that the Markus she knew bore were nowhere to be seen. There was a sharp intake of breath from the woman, and her hand would rise to cover her mouth. Tears will spring to her eyes and she would turn away from him, waves of various emotions rolling over her suddenly. Anger at herself, disappointment that he was not Markus, sadness that the one thing that would have made this situation bearable was not as she thought and utter, terrifying loneliness.
A loud, guttural shriek of anguish would burst from the girl's lung, and reaching out for the closest object she could, her fingers would wrap themselves around a nearby glass. Pulling her arm back, she would launch it at the closest wall. Hearing it smash, and shatter into pieces before she fell to her knees, sobbing softly. "I hate this place... I want to go home..." She cried weakly. It was like despite all the troubles that Ishgar, all of the horrible things she'd been through in her homeland. Suddenly they meant nothing, she would happily endure them, just to be home with the ones she knew and loved.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William would watch the woman as he spoke, first listening to her soft but pleading voice. He could not tell if she was pleading to him, or the universe, or both. But as he expected, she needed him to be Markus. And, honestly, it was a need he understood. She was thrown into this world who knows how, and who knows when, and with what, from he could tell, is much less power than she was used to. All of which proved to be what he could only expect as a horrible, and disorienting experience.
Although Markus could not see her when she looked at his back, should could hear her intake of breath, and knew, with that above anything else she believed him. As he turned to Nessa, sadness in his eyes, he could see it paled in comparison to the anguish she felt. As she released her frustration into the glass, and then fell to the floors in tears William could only watch, knowing this was something she needed to process.
Leaning over, William would pull the blanket from his bed, and lean down wrapping it around the girl, but otherwise he would not touch her, only crouch behind her so that she knew he was here. “I understand. This place is… difficult, and confusing. I wish I had realized you were an Otherworlder earlier, if so maybe… Maybe I could have saved you from some of this pain.” William would say softly. “As it stands, I will do what I can to help you. I have some money saved, and though I do not know much about Otherworlders, or how they return home, I have some connections that I might could contact.”
As William was talking, he would hear a sharp rasp on the door, followed by a message that their food had arrived, and was being left for them. “Laydown if you need to, take some time, I promise, we will get you home.” William would say, truly meaning what he said before silently retrieving their food and leaving it on the nightstand. He had no problem being displaced if it helped her cope.

It took Nessa several moments to compose herself, the overwhelming tidal wave that had been realising he wasn't her Markus had really shaken her. Any hope that she would be home with everyone again soon quickly fizzling out. She should have listened to him when he first told her he wasn't Markus, she shouldn't have pushed the matter and she shouldn't have kissed him. She was just so sure that it would awaken any memories of their time together. But how could it? They shared no memories because he wasn't her Markus. He was William. She wondered if Markus would be mad when he found out, or if he would understand why she did it. As worrisome as the thought was, she didn't even care, because she would rather be with him and have him be angry at her, then stuck in this world any longer.
She would feel the blanket wrapped around her and hear his 'Markus-like' voice offering her reassurance. She shut her eyes, taking a deep shaky breath. Could he really help her get home? It would certainly be ironic, using the aid of Mirean Markus to get home to Ishgar Markus. But then again, at this point she would take any help. She would reach up and wipe her face, sniffing as the tears eased their flow.
"Thank you... I just... It's been a bit frustrating you know." She told him meekly, she would climb off of the floor and move back to the bed, sitting herself down on it once more, albeit this time less enthusiastically. She pulled the blanket around her shoulders, food had arrived but she didn't really have an appetite anymore. "So... you were born and raised here? In Vyldermire?" She asked, he had already confirmed this, but she felt obligated to ask again. However this time she would avoid looking at him, focusing her gaze instead on the mirror.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William waited patiently nearby as Nessa took the time she needed to process. There was more than once he considered if he should leave. Surely, not having someone around who reminded her of what she was missing would be the best solution. However, he did not wish to take that step, at least not yet. Not unless it seemed that there would be no getting over how much he seemed like his supposed doubleganger.
One thing William did wonder is just how alike the two of them would be, it was obvious from Nessa’s reaction that they looked alike, and sounded alike. Though based on what he learned of the other mans scars, and Nessa’s reaction to his wings William could only conclude that their worlds, and thus their upbringings were different enough to lead to some large and noticeable changes, though not so drastic as to make their manors entirely noticable. Honestly, if William was not so creeped out by the concept, he would be absolutely enthralled by the possibilities.
As Nessa spoke, he would nod in understanding, kneeling next to the bed, but remaining distant from the woman. He could only imagine, and he knew saying as much would not help, so instead he would nod silently as she collected her thoughts and asked her next question.
Though the question was simple, and already answered, he understood her want, and or need to ask. It made sense, the desire to know more. He would notice however that as she spoke she no longer looked at him. Once more, he would consider if his best option would be to leave her. While he contemplated he answered the question.
“I was. I am one of the Eldritch…kinda… it is complicated. If you have any questions feel free to ask, hopefully I can make things less confusing.” He would state, before asking a question of his own. “Tell me about your homeland, what was your favorite food from home?” Although William was pretty sure food was food, he was hoping he could get her talking, and perhaps, if he was lucky, he might be able to aquire whatever it is tomorrow. Hopefully giving her something other than ‘Markus’ to dwell upon.

As she started toward the mirror, it took a lot of willpower not to look at him. Nessa had always been one to communicate with expression and found she couldn't read others very well unless she was looking into their eyes. Sometimes not even then. So often she was told of her poor judgement of character, more politely referred to by others as her naivete and the trust she placed in others. she wanted to prove them wrong, to believe she could grasp others well. But despite her own aspirations, she saw she always ended up believing in the good, so it didn't really matter. But still, she likes to see people's reactions and hope that somehow she was getting a better understanding of them. At least that's what she told herself... but that hadn't really done much in her past. Not with Rex... nor with Louie.
William would answer her, confirming what he had said before. He was an Eldritch... kinda, as he put it. Nessa didn't really get it but still, she knew she had no choice but to believe him. He wasn't Markus. He didn't have Markus's scars. Nor did he love her. Another painful pang in her chest at the thought, "Um, if you don't mind me asking... how old are you?" She asked, wondering just how many similarities he and Markus shared. "My homeland huh, um, where to start. I guess it's kind of like this place in the sense that, it's full of magic. We don't have this breakdown of races like you do. It's mostly humans, and Joyans. Oh wait you call them something else don't you... An-froze? Or something like that. Gaiyans and Eldritch exist in our world but they aren't really like... as present as they are here. I've never seen a demon just wandering around in my world you know, they mostly tend to inhabit the bodies of humans, like parasites or possession."
"OH WAIT... n-not that you guys are parasites or anything, that was just an example of how they work in Ishgar." She would raise her hands apologetically, her slip up causing her to look toward him with a panicked expression - hoping that he wasn't offended by her words.

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

William would take a brief moment to grab himself a slab of meat, and a slice of some bread. The food was not amazing, but it gave him something to do other than looking at, or pushing the woman before she was ready. Kneeling down once more he would take a bite as Nessa listened to his answer, then asked a new question.
William would look at her briefly, curious if she was still trying to decide how alike Markus he was. With a smile he would answer softly. “I don’t mind. I am 26, so very young as far as elder races are concerned.” William would respond, wanting to ask more about her, but remaining silent as she answered his question.
“That is interesting, so that was what you meant by your power? You were pretty strong there?” William would ask genuinely curious. He was far from the most powerful person, and very low on the totem pole that is worldly power. It made him curious just how much power she had lost, and how difficult of a change that must be. “Must be a huge adjustment… I had heard Otherworld that come here experience changes… I am sorry you are going through this.”
William would laugh as she spoke about the Eldritch, and what they meant to her world. Truthfully, there certainly were members of the demon clan who could do such thing, but the very idea that Angels, Demons, and other beings had been completely displaced by Human kind was… intense.
“So… Humans one out in your world? Or has it always been humans?” William would ask curiously. Then laugh as she tried to backtrack. “No problem, as you saw by our blood sucking hot head leeches are not far off for some of us… I like to think that I am… not… in the majority. Though, hopefully one day that will change. If any of the races had their way… I think our world would end up much more like yours… Hell, humans and their… ingenuity… would probably win out.” The Eldritch would say, honestly believing that while the world would be bloody, he believed Humans if they really pushed could succeed in overtaking both the Eldritch and the Gaiyan.

Nessa nodded, taking in the information. For some reason she expected him to be older, how long did Eldritch live? Were they immortal? These were things she wondered but felt it impolite to ask. Maybe if she had time, it might do to visit a library and do a bit of reading. Maybe by understanding this place better, she would get a better grasp on how to get out of here. But doing so would hardly be an easy feat because regardless of what world she was in there was one thing Nessa hated - studying.
Nessa glanced at her fingers, she wasn't one to gloat but she wanted to paint a picture for him. So he could picture how much strength she had lost, "Yeah, pretty strong. Like when I said I could take that Vampire girl, I meant it. Back home, I could have turned her into a puddle of ash with a flick of my fingers. But since coming here, the most I can manage is this." She summoned an orb into her hand, a bright ball of glowing light that looked like how one might picture a small star if it had been plucked from the sky. At least in the sense of how pretty it was, this one wasn't nearly as deadly as a real star, not even close. It was bigger than it had been when she first got here. At first, she could barely summon a ball as big as her thumbnail, this one however at the very least filled her palm. But it wasn't especially strong, just enough that she didn't have to run away from the slimes now.
"It's okay, it's not the first time this sort of thing has happened to me, or someone I know. It's just that this is the longest it's lasted for so it's a little strange you know..." She admitted dejectedly, "Thank you for helping me though, everyone else just let it happen, but you stopped it." She told him, throwing him a brief appreciative glance.
"Um, I think it's always been humans, we've had wars but as far as I know, it's always been with our own kind." She told him, trying to remember if anything similar had happened in her world. She really couldn't pin point anything, history wasn't as well documented in Ishgar as it was in Vyldermire. Or maybe it was just that people didn't talk about it... she wasn't really sure.
"I think it's kind of neat though, the way you have it here. I wonder if the demons in our world wish they could wander freely... instead of being hunted by Demon Slayers. Actually, yeah, I'm sure they do." Now that she thought about it, there was something a little off about the way Ishgar was towards demons. If they really just wanted to be a part of society, why shouldn't they let them. Granted as long as they didn't do bad things, maybe they could live more peacefully. Maybe when she went home, she could look into it. See if there was some truth to this in her world... but first, she had to get home.
"You said you had a friend who might have some information about Otherworlders, I'm sorry to ask but... I don't suppose you could introduce me." She turned to him, this time she would bring her eyes up to his face. Bearing the sight of the man who so resembled the one she loved. It would have been easier to go their separate ways and to pretend she never met William. But that was not an option, she needed to find out a way to get home. And seeing as he was the first person to actually ... offer her so aid. She knew better than to refuse it...

Re: Not quite a Reunion. [William]

A Nessa spoke William found himself nodding. Honestly, with what he learned and the way she carried herself he found himself believing her. However, when she actually used her Magic William could no help but stare. Moving a little closer, William would brush her hand for just a moment reaching out to cup it, when he seemed to think better of the idea and let his hands drop. Still kneeling, though now beside the bed he would speak up. “Its beautiful. Just like the night sky…” William would say breathlessly, know a beautiful star filled sky was one of the few joys he loved in life.
Taking a deep breath, he would seem to get his bearings and step further away again. “I see… Well, it still must be difficult, and no problem… This place is… well let’s just say their need to remain placid is engrained so deeply, there is no getting around it.” William would say, accepting her thanks, but not dwelling on it.
“Interesting. I would love to know more one day, but I guess this is not the time. Demons by nature like to be free, and enjoy… well life. I would be surprised to see so many so placid. But I guess if they have been weakened over years of hunting it is to be expected.” William would say, still interested thinking on what she had said when her next question came to him. One he was, now that he knew more, kind of regretting.
“Alright… well now that I know more, I have to be honest with you, because I refuse to lead you astray. I know nothing about Otherworlders, and until now thought of them as an old wifes tale. That being said, there are certainly more… knowledgeable individuals in these lands we could go see.” William paused for a moment contemplating. The truth was, he knew some people further in the Outer Realms. His first thought was obviously Sin Haven. His father, and other… high ranking… members of his race lived there. Though he would avoid them, there were a few within the city who owed him, though he certainly wouldn’t call her a friend... Though, such a trip would be dangerous for William, let alone an Otherworlder who looked like an Elf.
Realizing he had paused for longer than he wanted he spoke up again. “Truthfully, there are not a lot of good options… My first thought is Sinhaven. I know people there, but it is… deep in Eldritch territory. And, excuse me for the reminder, you looking like an Elf will not help with our travels there… Though, honestly you might do better as an elf than a human there.” William added, considering how the city acted to the human race. “The city while distrusting Otherworlders certainly makes use of their technology, and I would be surprised if someone there, excluding my… friend… Don’t know something.”
Taking another moment William decided he would lead the choice up to Nessa. “Alright, if you wish to try it, I will take you to Sin Haven. Though, it will be a long trip. We should probably cross back into Engloria first, restock there, perhaps get a bit more money… maybe even get some adventures guild allies” William added the last part in as a second thought more under his breath than anything. “Then we can head into the Outer Realms once more and see what we can discover.” All of this meant preparation, as such William would offer to get her a room for the night, and promise her a warm breakfast before they would set off on their next adventure, whatever that turned out to be.
